Long before Saratoga Springs became famous for its rich history of horse racing, it was known as one of the premier resort destinations in the country. People traveled to Saratoga Springs to take “the cure” by indulging in mineral baths and drinking from the various springs around town. Saratoga Springs became known as the “Queen of Spas”.
To celebrate the City’s mineral springs and their importance to the City, Terri Bartosik of Whole Knit n’Caboodle and Jill Ramos of Jill Ramos Designs have collaborated on the “Saratoga Springs Collection”. Taking inspiration from the naturally occurring colors created by the minerals in the springs, Terri has waved her yarn dying magic wand to create shades to reflect the beauty of four of the City’s springs - Columbian, Deer Spring Park, Hathorn and Peerless. To showcase these gorgeous yarns Terri has designed a sweet sock knit in her sock weight yarn and her husband Jim has designed a fun sampler cowl knit in her DK weight yarn. Jill designed a lovely lace shawl that mimics the springs’ flow and is knit in Terri’s sport weight.
This collaboration debuted recently and has been very well received. Come in to see it yourself.
Join us for a Solar Social Knitting session. There is no charge to come and knit with us as we watch the eclipse unfold. Fingers crossed for good weather and a clear sky.

Hopefully by then the snow will subside and the roads will be safe for travel. Unfortunately, we have to cancel today's Drop-In Knitting Class. If anything changes before noon, we will post on Instagram & Facebook.

We are so excited to welcome Emre Koc, President & Co-Founder of Urth Yarns, back to our shop. He is in the US for Vogue Knitting Live and has offered to travel to Saratoga to spend time with us. Let's make him feel welcomed!
The fine merino wool and self-striping colors of Urth Yarns, especially the Uneek Fingering, has been a favorite among our customers for years. Emre will display garments and patterns, introduce a new yarn that will soon be available and answer your questions about his family, his company and the yarn we love. Refreshments will be served.
Emre is a third generation yarn wholesaler. His grandfather started a company in the 1950s which became one of Turkey’s most well-known yarn brands. Urth Yarns was founded in 2017 to give back to people and the Earth. Urth Yarns plants a tree for every skein of yarn sold. They are proud to announce that they have planted over 200,000 trees in Africa.
A wonderful winter KAL. This open cardigan is super cozy with its garter shawl collar and suggested transitioning of colors. Bring your pattern and supplies to this session.
If you have not yet signed up for this KAL, there is still time to join. Let us know if you'd like to be added to the list of participants so that we can make sure you receive all KAL details.
Come see the great selection of yarns hand dyed by this good friend of our shop. There will be plenty of yarn and kits displayed. Additionally, sample "fade" color packs will be available for anyone who wants one dyed in the required yardage to make the Comfort Fade Cardi, whether you are joining our KAL or not.
The KAL will begin in February and will include two classes, led by Jill Ramos, for those who want or need technical support and guidance. Sign up for this KAL so we can pass along more specifics to you.

Not going to Rhinebeck? No worries. We'll give you something to do on Saturday, October 19th.
If you have made or are in the process of making the Shift Cowl, join us at the shop for breakfast on Saturday, October 19th at 8:30 am. Bring your finished cowl or the one you are working on. We are all eager to see each other's color combinations and progress. We'll take a group photo as well.
We would also appreciate an RSVP for the breakfast.
We love the excitement that Track Season brings to Saratoga Springs. But there comes a time when we are happy to have it settle down. Let’s celebrate as we “take back our town” with good food, friends and a special Bingo game.
To participate in Bingo, bring a pen and a bag (no larger than our standard shopping bag size) crammed with knitting/crochet related items. Naturally, you will want to be wearing something you have knit or crocheted. Play for fun, play for prizes!
Food and beverages will be available before we start Bingo. An R.S.V.P. would be helpful.
Join us as we kick off a Skacel KAL with their host: Crasy Sylvie Rasch. Sylvie is a prolific designer and online personality and was the creative force behind the addi Flexiflips. While this project is not a mystery, the pattern will be released in parts over 4 consecutive weeks. Sylvie will also be releasing helpful video tutorials along the way.
An introduction to the KAL will be on Saturday, September 7th. There will be three sessions to follow. While this is not a "learn to knit socks" class, you will knit this fun sock design with plenty of help from our sock teacher, Carol "Cookie" Hornung. As always, there will be an opportunity to win Skacel sponsored prizes from our end of the KAL drawing!
Cost: $30
Our customers have the biggest hearts! We can’t tell you how many of you come into the shop looking for projects and/or yarn to knit for charity. For the month of March, we are encouraging our tribe to create Chemo Caps and Knitted Knockers to donate to local hospitals. Cascade Ultra Pima Cotton is a wonderful yarn choice for these projects as it provides the softness that tender skin calls for, while still holding its shape and providing washability. In March, we will offer Ultra Pima for 15% off the normal price, and we will be collecting items until April 1st.
On Sunday, March 31, 2-4 pm, Common Thread will host Social Knitting to work together on charity projects, or to drop off projects already knit. Refreshments will be provided. We hope you will stop in to connect with old friends or meet new ones!
